Update on Summer Conditions for Big Game in Colorado

It's shaping up to be an excellent hunting season in Colorado this year! With abundant moisture throughout the spring and early summer, conditions are green and beautiful. Our deer and elk herds should be in great shape, and we expect an excellent year for antler growth. We are looking forward to the early season and late season hunts in beautiful western Colorado! The state received above average snowpack at high elevations this year. Statewide, snowpack topped out at about 130% of normal. What's more, we've received cool weather and plenty of rain right up through the first half of the summer. The extra moisture and slow melt is producing excellent summer conditions. In fact, most high elevation areas are still hanging on to some snowpack. This will help keep things green throughout the summer months.Summer in ColoradoAs deer and elk herds continue to follow this abundance of green vegetation up the mountains, we can expect to see a positive impact on herd health as we enter the hunting season. The quality feed can also have a positive impact on antler growth. Compared to the extremely dry conditions we experienced last year, this weather brings a welcome change. We have a full schedule here in 2019. We're looking forward to some great early season archery hunts in unit 62, which is an over-the-counter elk hunt. We also have clients who drew coveted muzzleloader licenses in unit 61, which is one of Colorado's premier elk hunting units. We can't wait to be chasing bugling bulls in this beautiful elk country on the Uncompahgre Plateau! From these early season hunts, and right on through to our late season cow elk hunts, it's going to be an exciting season here at Dark Timber Lodge and Timber to Table Outfitters. Please know that we are already busy booking for the 2020 season.
